Robert
W. Ahern
Robert
W. Ahern has more than thirty years experience
in human resources and labor relations.
He specializes in implementing change and
labor-management partnerships. He has written
"The Labor Management Council"
published in Industrial Democracy (Woodworth,
Meek, and W.F. Whyte, eds.). He has made
presentations before the AMA, AAA, FMCS,
Industrial Relations Research Association,
ASTD, and the Singapore National Productivity
Board.
With Kennecott Copper Mr. Ahern led labor
relations for all domestic mining operations.
He spent five years in line management positions
with Ottawa Silica and was Vice President
of Industrial Relations for Crucible Steel
where he created a corporate management
development system, installed a new compensation
system, redesigned the management organization,
and served as chief spokesman in negotiations.
For eighteen
years he was Executive Director of the Buffalo-Erie
County Labor-Management Council where he
implemented labor-management cooperative
change processes in more than forty unionized
firms in a wide variety of industries. He
was first President of the National Association
of Area Labor-Management Committees and
has taught at the University of Buffalo,
Canisius College, and Cornell University.
Mr. Ahern holds
a degree from the School of Industrial Relations
at Cornell University and an MBA from Syracuse
University. His major clients include Whirlpool,
Reynolds Metals, Armstrong World Industries,
and Carrier.
